"The song and video both came from living in the Highland Park neighborhood in the Northeast part of Los Angeles. A bunch of individuals in the community (shoutout GLK and Phil Nisco) happened to be gathered out front of an establishment often earmarked as the early hub of colonization in the neighborhood. Everyone was watching the systematic demolition of a storefront directly across the street that was a staple for years. The slow-motion represents a couple of things:

1. The gradual wave of devolution that precedes a cultural reconstruction, as often assigned to gentrification based practices.
2. The nostalgic assignment of temporal value in regards to familiar landmarks, locations, associations. etc., which in turn discounts the actual market value of the commodity in question in the eyes of those who would utilize said commodity the most, i.e. the middle to lower class consumer. Anyone in the upper class is automatically assigned the burden of causing gentrification versus being a victim of it...

That neighborhood (along with many others) fell sway to the vast economic boom that has been associated with modern day economics, identity politics, terrorism, cultural displacement and all manner of psychological trauma and abuse. The newfound affluence and positivity is often overlooked at the expense of the foreign bodies that are attracted to the new resources available. To the point that the original citizens of some of these establishments do not have the means to afford the common luxuries that are within their grasp for what often times is the first time ever..."
